The term "tipped-on" refers to a method of affixing cards which utilizes a pattern of adhesive placed on the form, with a card mounted on top of the adhesive area. The adhesive is usually applied in a pattern of dots or lines which covers approximately 80 to 90% of the card surface. The adhesive must be removable, and should not bond too tightly to the carrier form, or the back of the card.
"Tipped-on" cards can be made of any material, but plastic or coated stocks are most common. Brandt Affixing Inc. can affix a wide variety of cards, using the "tipped-on" method, including 30 mil card stocks. (Credit card thickness.) Although this affixing method is no longer recommended for laser printed card applications, many people still use "tipped-on" cards for impact printed cards. Plastic cards requiring a signature panel on the back of the card should use the "tip-on" method.
Adhesive tests are highly recommended for "tipped-on" cards, to insure that there is no "fiber tear" when the card is removed from the form. The recommended paper weight for carrier forms is 28# Ledger. |
