Integrated Labels:

  • Integrated labels are ideal for all types of laser printed applications. (Both cut sheet and continuous laser printers.) Because an integrated label is thinner than a piggyback label, it is less likely to jam in the printer.
  • Integrated labels are less bulky than piggyback labels. This means less overall weight, which reduces freight costs. It also means that more label-forms can be packed in a carton, which saves time for the printer operator.
  • Integrated labels offer the best opportunity to produce exact ink color matches between the form and the label, since all the printing is done at one time, on one press. This is especially important when trying to match non standard ink colors. ("Corporate colors.")
  • In most cases, integrated labels are less expensive than piggyback labels.
  • For brand new applications, the tooling charges for integrated labels are less than the tooling charges for piggyback labels.
  • Production time for integrated labels is typically shorter, because it involves only two processes: 1. printing the form, and 2. integrating the labels. Whereas piggyback label forms involve three processes: 1. printing the form, 2. printing the label, and 3. affixing the label to the form.

REMINDERS:
Although many integrated labels are delivered to the end user as cut sheets, (8 1/2" x 11" laser sheets) they all MUST start as a CONTINUOUS form.
If the forms are to be trimmed to 8 1/2" x 11": cut sheets, remember to use a Micro-perforation on the 11" horizontal fan fold, and no marginal perforations.

Piggyback Labels:
So, when do you use piggyback labels???
  • Piggyback labels are ideal for multiple part continuous forms.
  • Piggyback labels can also be affixed to cut sheets. (vs. Integrated labels which MUST be created from a continuous form, and then sheeted off line.)
  • Piggyback labels can "go anywhere". (i.e., they can be affixed nearer to a perforation or to the edge of a form than integrated labels. (As a rule of thumb, integrated labels should be approximately 1/2" from any perforation.)
  • Piggyback labels offer more variety! Special papers, such as latex, kimdura, foils, or even Polyester can be made into piggyback labels and affixed to forms to handle more specific labeling requirements. (Example: Medical and Laboratory labels, weather resistant labels.) Since Integrated Labels are made from a paper form, they may not be suitable for these applications.
  • Piggyback labels also offer more adhesives, as well as removable and repositionable adhesives on piggyback stocks.
  • Some customers prefer piggyback labels over integrated labels, because it's easier to identify the labels on the forms. (Example: a blank piggyback label on a blank form is easier to see than a blank integrated label on a blank form.) For instance, Piggyback Label-Forms can be used in direct mail applications where the label serves as an "action device." (Example: "Peel off this label and affix to the enclosed order form.")
  • Piggyback labels are used on forms where there is back printing in the same location as the label. The adhesive patch on an integrated label would normally cover up this information, and it would become the BACK of the label.)
  • Any odd depth form length is better suited for a piggyback label.
